Read This Tomorrow
A New Musical by Ben Diskant
Read This Tomorrow is a two-person, 75-minute musical that follows a man at two pivotal ages in his life: 18 and 38. At 18 years old, TJ has just come out and is experiencing life for the first time. As TJ navigates college, sex, and new feelings of love (with his crush on upper-classman Danny), he documents each adventure in his journal. Tom, at 38, has just separated from his partner and while moving out of their apartment, finds his old college journal. Re-reading the exuberant words from his youth, Tom realizes that Danny (now a Professor at Northwestern) might be the one who got away. In a split-second decision, Tom gets on a train back to Chicago to find his first love, but ultimately ends up finding something much more unexpected. Read This Tomorrow explores the question of who is actually in control of the current narrative. Is Tom pursing the life he truly wants, or is he simply following the plans laid out by TJ? Are we destined to follow the dreams of our younger self, or can we adapt the narrative and change the direction of our story? Demo Recordings: |
